Finding and Designing a Specialty
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006Having a niche is supposed to make designer’s career flourish. In fact, being a specialist in any field will often lead to more success - faster. Finding this niche requires difficult decisions. Ideas will get canned. The ability say “no” must be exercised with precision. And I think the hardest of all for a designer, realizing that even though possible to do something and even do it very well, you’re not always best served by taking on the challenge.
My favorite quote when I’m in a rush to accomplish ten different tasks, all with equal ambition, “You can do anything you want to do. You just can’t do everything.”
